i_s_l_a_n_d_rpYachiru is the Vice Captain of the 11th Division and despite being the youngest and tiniest smallest among the seated shinigamis, she is very much respected throughout her division. Although it appears like she's glued on Kenpachi, she is not. Ken-chan's shoulder is just her favorite hangout. :D
Ken-chan and Yachiru's first meeting wasn't the most beautiful one... The then infant Yachiru crawled over to Ken-chan after he killed lots of people. She was totally unshaken by the violence she witnessed, keeping her happy disposition. This- and the fact that she touched his sword despite the blood and the warnings- intrigued Ken-chan so he adopted her and named her "Yachiru", the name of the only person he cared about (or so he says).
She and her captain are like polar opposites- her cuteness and hyper-activity against Ken-chan's power-hungry demeanor- but Yachiru is eternally devoted to him. Their relationship can go way past scientific explanation (covalent bond, ionic bond, james bond.... *gets shot for the corny-ness*). And that's a good thing because without this duo, there'll be one less comic relief in Bleach, nya?
Anyway, back to Yachiru.
She's got a horrible sense of direction (and by that, I meant HORRIBLE). She makes up nicknames for people. She's mostly sugar on the outside. You know, typical cute hyperactive little kid in anime shows.
What sets her apart from the anime-cute-kid stereotype is that underneath that toothache-triggering candy coating of hers is a more serious side. Yachiru, surprisingly, has exceptional speed and strength considering her size. She was able to carry Kenpachi who is much much bigger than she is. I was quite surprised when I she did that...
Yachiru's postion in the squad may have been because of nepotism but she was able to prove that she deserves the vice captain title and that she was more than what she seems to be. Even if it doesn't appear like it, she knows what she's doing. She can take control (despite the horrible sense of direction thing)- she is the president of the Shinigami Women's Association, after all [and you have to admit, she was the one who lead Orihime, Ishida, Chad, and Ganju to the Soukyoku when Kenpachi had to fight Komamura and Tousen]. And even with her size and uber cuteness, she can be a very intimidating person.
She probably doesn't take care of her paperwork (I can't imagine her doing so...) but being a competent leader cannot be measured by the amount of paperwork one can finish in a day, right?
Well, anyway, she got Ken-chan and herself lost again for the nth time. And for some strange reason (or dumb luck or someone's twisted joke), the dead end turned into a small black hole in which only Yachiru could fit in... then it sucked our little vice captain in! O:
